Ethical Standards and Plagiarism

1. Ethical Responsibilities
The Medical Journal (Tacna Online), also known as the Medical Journal of the Hipólito Unanue Hospital of Tacna, recognizes the commitment involved in disseminating scientific output. This process involves authors, reviewers, and editors, who must act in accordance with ethical principles that ensure academic integrity.

The journal promotes the veracity of published information, respect for copyright, and compliance with good editorial practices. To this end, it is guided by international standards such as those established by COPE and ICMJE, as well as by current Peruvian regulations on scientific research.

1.1. Authors' Commitments
Authors must submit original work, guaranteeing the authenticity of the data and avoiding any form of plagiarism or manipulation of results. Duplicate publication or simultaneous submission to other journals is not permitted.

It is mandatory to properly acknowledge the sources used and have authorization to use confidential information. Likewise, only those who have made significant contributions to the study should be listed as authors, respecting an order consistent with their participation.

Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest and their funding sources. If errors are detected after publication, they are obligated to report them promptly. They must also be willing to provide supporting data for their research if requested.

1.2. Reviewers' Commitments
Reviewers play a key role in the evaluation of manuscripts, and therefore must provide objective, critical, and well-founded opinions that contribute to improving the quality of the work.

They must respect established deadlines, maintain the confidentiality of the reviewed content, and avoid any misuse of the information. Furthermore, they must declare any potential conflicts of interest and abstain from participating if such conflicts exist.

Their evaluation must be based on academic criteria, avoiding personal judgments, and including relevant bibliographic suggestions when necessary.

1.3. Editors' Commitments
Editors are responsible for ensuring a transparent and impartial review process, selecting suitable reviewers, and making decisions based solely on the scientific quality of the submissions.

They must also maintain the confidentiality of the editorial process, avoid conflicts of interest, and ensure compliance with established deadlines. The journal maintains an open access model, with no costs for authors or readers.

2. Plagiarism
Plagiarism is considered a serious offense and includes the unauthorized copying of ideas, texts, or results, as well as the falsification or manipulation of data.

To prevent these practices, the journal uses detection and peer review tools. If any irregularity is confirmed, international guidelines will be applied, and the published article may even be withdrawn.

3. Disclaimer of Liability
The journal is not responsible for any acts of plagiarism or fraud committed by authors in submitted or published works.

4. Errata and Retractions
Corrections will be communicated promptly. If an item requires retraction, the reasons will be reported and the corresponding procedure will be followed according to international standards.
