FACTORES ASOCIADOS A TUBERCULOSIS RESISTENTE EN PACIENTES ATENDIDOS EN EL HOSPITAL HIPÓLITO UNANUE DE TACNA, 2018 – 2022

Introduction: Tuberculosis is a preventable and curable disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The increase in cases of drugresistant tuberculosis has made it a global health emergency. Objective: To determine the sociodemographic, epidemiological, and clinical factors associated with drug-resistant tuberculosis in patients treated at the Hipólito Unanue Hospital in Tacna, Peru from 2018 to 2022. Materials and Methods: This was a nonexperimental, analytical, cross-sectional, observational, and retrospective study with a sample of 92 resistant patients. Data was collected through medical records from 2018 to 2022. Results: The most frequent sociodemographic factors were: urban residence (93.5%), male sex (57.6%), adult age group (51.1%), and residence in the districts of Tacna, Pocollay (23.9% each), and Gregorio Albarracín (22.8%). The most frequent epidemiological factors were: new cases (79.3%), cured treatment outcome (45.7%), and a history of contact with monoresistant TB (26.1%). The most frequent clinical factor was multidrug-resistant TB (48.9%). Conclusions: The factors associated with drug-resistant tuberculosis were urban residence, male sex, adult age group, new cases, cured treatment outcome, history of contact with monoresistant TB, and multidrug-resistant TB.
