Level of Knowledge and Control Measures Regarding Dengue Among Adults in Pocollay, Tacna

Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and control measures regarding dengue among adult residents of Pocollay in Tacna during 2026. Methodology: A quantitative, cross-sectional, and analytical study involving a sample of 204 adult residents, assessed using a structured questionnaire to evaluate knowledge regarding transmission, the causative agent, the vector, clinical signs, and preventive measures. Results: 54.9% of residents demonstrated a low level of knowledge regarding dengue transmission. Severe theoretical contradictions were identified: 54.9% were unaware of the Aedes aegypti vector, and 72.1% failed to recognize the correct transmission cycle. However, although 74.0% identified the removal of containers with standing water as the primary preventive measure, there was a high degree of practical implementation. A significant association was found between age and level of knowledge (χ² = 20.33, p < 0.001), while sex did not show a significant association (χ² = 4.39, p = 0.111). Conclusion: Among the population of Pocollay, there is a notable general lack of knowledge regarding dengue transmission and preventive measures. This lack of information is significantly influenced by age-related factors, which requires a reevaluation of public health policies in terms of in-person, generation-targeted strategies to reduce the risk of transmission.
